Did You Know You Can Get Custom Orthotics From A PT?
Did you know there are PT’s at OSI who can custom make orthotics for you? What is an orthotic? What does it do for you?
Sometimes people have foot pain related to the shape of their foot (a common example of an area of pain is plantar fasciitis) and an orthotic is something that can be made by a PT that is specifically made through a casting process on the bottom of your foot to hold the foot in a more neutral, less-stressful-to-the- tissues position. By reducing the stresses to the tissues, less irritation is caused and pain can resolve. Also, there are times when a person would benefit from what we call an “off the shelf” orthotic meaning it is a one size fits all support for your foot that fits in the bottom of your shoe. This may be appropriate for someone who’s foot needs just a little bit of help to keep it in a more neutral position.
Whether you’ve tried an off the shelf or other things that have not resolved your foot pain, consider seeing a PT at OSI to assess whether a custom orthotic would be beneficial for you.
