Do You Have Restless Leg Syndrome And Nothing Has Helped?
I have recently had a number of patients comment on their difficulty with this condition. Before I go further, lets define restless leg syndrome with the help of The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Restless Leg Syndrome or RLS is a neurological disorder that can be most notably characterized by the uncontrollable urge to move legs at rest. This uncontrollable sensation can often be coupled with pulling, throbbing, creeping and aching sensations in the lower limbs.
Often-simple changes can assist to correct RLS like improving your sleep habits; cutting out stimulations in your diet such as caffeine, alcohol and tobacco; taking a warm bath prior to sleeping; trying ice or heat packs; if you know you have low levels of iron, taking an iron supplement; and of course my favorite a regular daily routine of moderate level exercise. If you are new to treatment, this is a great place to start. In fact, see your therapist – we can help establish a regular exercise routine for you. However, for many of my patient’s these changes haven’t helped. For those in this category I would offer one more thing to try.
Many testimonies have been shared with the successful use of placing Ivory Soap under your sheets to treat RLS. Further research needs to be done on answering the questions of why and how successful it is, but for a natural remedy it is definitely worth a try.
If you are dealing with or have dealt with RLS please share a comment as to what has or has not worked for you.
