PT/PTA Care Team

At OSI Physical Therapy, Physical Therapists (PTs) and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) often work together to provide comprehensive and individualized care to their patients. A simple analogy: when you visit your regular physician, you sometimes see their physician assistant (PA). That is what PTAs are for PTs in the physical therapy world!

PT/PTA Care Team

What Does the PT Do?

PTs have advanced knowledge, specialized skills, and expertise to evaluate patients, diagnose conditions, establish treatment plans, and oversee the overall direction of care that’s being provided.

What Does the PTA Do?

While PTAs are highly skilled healthcare professionals, they work under the supervision of PTs. PTAs play a crucial role in patient care, supporting PTs in implementing patient treatment plans by prescribing exercises, providing modalities, educating patients, and monitoring progress.

All PTAs must graduate from an accredited PTA program, pass state boards for licensure, and complete required Continuing Education. PTAs are also encouraged to further their education with special certifications and degree advancement programs.

How Does this Type of Care Team Benefit Me, the Patient?

PTs and PTAs work collaboratively to optimize patient care and outcomes. The PT/PTA team ensures that our patients receive consistent, efficient and effective care at OSI. While you would receive high-quality care from any of our PTs or PTAs, the best care often results from the combined efforts of PTs and PTAs working together as a team. As a bonus, PTAs allow us to offer appointment flexibility, which is why we can see most patients within 48 hours of their referral!
