Why The Training Room?
“My name is Kimberly McDonald, and this is my TTR story! I have been a member of the training room for a year and a half, and I have loved each and every minute of it!!! I have met amazing people and look forward to each time I get to walk through the doors.
I have always enjoyed sports and being physically active. As a teenager I participated in multiple school sports – swimming, basketball, and fast-pitch softball. I loved being with friends, but even more than that I liked the challenge of each sport. As much as I enjoyed sports it also took a toll on my body.
Fast-forward almost 20 years. I had my first bulged disc in 2008; at this time there were no options other than surgery for me. I underwent a microdiscectomy procedure in March 2008. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and learned it would more than likely happen again. The recovery was painful, yet I was determined to return to my normal activity. Unfortunately, in April 2009 I re-injured by back again. This led to my second microdiscectomy. I struggled after surgery to gain flexibility, movement, and manage constant pain. Three months later, my surgeon and I determined that I would need to undergo a back fusion. After six months of recovery I was referred to OSI for physical therapy.
In 2012, I was again referred to OSI for physical therapy as I was losing space between the discs below my fusion. It was at this time that I worked on gaining flexibility and building core strength. My physical therapists challenged me to join the TTR after I finished OSI. Apprehensive, I joined TTR in the summer of 2012. Having never worked with a trainer I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. One of my biggest fears was whether or not my body could handle the physical challenge. Personally, I wasn’t looking to lose weight, but to become physically stronger.
I am about a year and a half into my journey at TTR, and it has been AMAZING!! I continue to participate in-group training sessions on a weekly basis. Classes that I have participated in include RIP, R.I.P.P.E.D., Yoga, and spin class. I can also proudly say that I successfully finished three 5k’s this past summer! These achievements are not only due to my own hard work, but also to those who have supported me through my journey. There is not a trainer here that does not have my utmost respect! I cannot thank them enough for their support, encouragement, challenge, and education.
I am also happy to say that I am able to watch the journey unfold for my son, husband, and mother. Having a family, I know that time is precious, but my time at TTR has made me a better mother, wife, and daughter. It’s my time for me and me only. I love each and every minute of it!!!”
