4 Helpful Tips To Prepare For Physical Therapy

Often times when you need physical therapy , life can be hectic so today I’m going to share a few quick tips to make sure that you have a good experience at physical therapy.

1. Wear appropriate clothing

While we do have some shorts and t-shirts to provide patients if needed, it’s best to arrive at therapy dressed in loose, comfortable athletic clothing. Athletic clothing will make any physical activity you do at therapy much more comfortable. Choose clothing that allows the therapist easy access to the body part being treated. Coming dressed will also save time and allow you and the therapist to make the most of your appointment. Additionally, wear closed toed athletic shoes as this will make activities such as riding the stationary bike or walking on the treadmill much more comfortable.

2. Bring a water bottle

Most physical therapy includes some mild to moderate physical activity and, while we do have water for you, we only have tiny plastic cups for it. Bringing a water bottle will make it that much easier for you to stay well hydrated during your physical therapy session.

3. Bring a snack

Physical activity can send your blood sugar levels tumbling. By bringing a snack, such as a granola bar, a piece of fruit or some trail mix, to eat after your physical therapy session, you can make sure you’re feeling great the rest of your day.

4. Get started early

Instead of being bored in the waiting room, you are always welcome to head back to the gym area early and use any of the cardio machines (bike, treadmill, elliptical, etc.). It never hurts to get in a little extra exercise and when your therapist is ready for you, you will be all warmed-up and ready to go.
Hopefully, these tips will set you on your way towards a happy and successful time during your therapy with us. Don’t forget if you have any questions any of the staff at the clinic will be happy to help you.

I appreciate the information on how to prepare for physical therapy, it was very helpful. I agree that getting started early is very important in physical therapy, it can make a huge difference in the end even though it may hurt more at the beginning. My brother is having to start physical therapy soon and he wants to make sure it goes well, I will be sure to share this page with him.
