2013 OSI Leadership Team Building

2013 OSI Leadership Team

At the beginning of each year, OSI’s Leadership Team takes time to focus on strategic planning around our customer service and the future of our services under health care reform. This includes innovative services provided in an innovative way so we can meet our Triple Aim: Measureable Quality Outcomes, Exceptional Patient Experience, and Lower Cost of Care. This year the Leadership Team also took some time prior to the strategic meeting for a team building activity to strengthen the internal Leadership Team.

American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties Recognizes Two OSI Board Certified Specialists

Sara Lumby, PT, OCS and Emily Terhune-Wold, PT, OCS were recently honored by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). At an annual meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in San Diego yesterday, Sara and Emily were recognized for having recently completed the requirements to become Board-Certified Specialists in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. In doing so, they are among fewer than 4% of Physical Therapists in the nation who have achieved this distinction.

The APTA, a national professional organiation representing more than 85,000 members throughout the United States, established the specialist certification program in 1978. Specialization is the process by which a physical therapist builds on a broad base of professional educaiton and practice to develop a greater depth of knowledge and skills related to a particular area of practice.

To obtain board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialy area. In addition, candidates must successfully complete a rigorous written examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapist practice. Other specialty certifications include Sports, Neurology, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Clinical Electrophysiology, and Cardiovascular/Pulmonary, and Women’s Health.

“The whole process of certification made me a better therapist,” says Sara. “My preparation and clinical experience in this area has resulted in my being more efficient in my examinations and more focused on the use of research and evidence as I choose my treatment approach.”

“That’s true for me, too.” says Emily. “I am more confident that I can offer the right service resulting in the best possible outcomes for my patients; many of whom have been able to avoid long-term reliance on medication, surgeries and other costly procedures.”

Sara Lumby, PT, OCS works for OSI in Stillwater.

Emily Terhune-Wold, PT, OCS works at OSI in Maplewood.

Commemorating a Legacy of Prevention, Wellness and Rehabilitation

OSI Physical Therapy is celebrating over 30 years of service, becoming a leading force in orthopedic rehabilitation, health and fitness and injury prevention. With this as its core focus, we opened our doors in a small Stillwater, Minnesota building along side other medical professionals.

Growing quickly, we had to resort to leasing space across the parking lot in the back of “The Broaster Hut,” a local chicken restaurant, to house our exercise facility. Unfortunately, our patients had to walk the hundred feet or so, sometimes with crutches and walkers, to get there. But they did so with smiles, simply knowing they were on their path to recovery.

From those humble beginnings 30 years ago, we’ve grown from that small office with the whirlpool in the lobby to eleven clinics and two fitness facilities in and around the Twin Cities metro area and western Wisconsin. Each serving their communities with a broad range of preventative, rehabilitative and consulting services.

Mike Ripley, OSI owner, is more than passionate about the breadth of resources we offer. “We are so grateful to the wonderful communities we serve, the physicians who support our practice and the literally hundreds of thousands of patients we have had the pleasure to treat over the years. Helping keep people active and living the best they can, is more than just our mission. It’s our promise.”
